Thank you to everyone who voted on the poll....it seems that most of you are mainly interested in the abandoned and decaying architecture...and decay you shall have!
Today's post is on the incredibly beautiful Grande Manicomio, an abandoned Mental Institution in Italy where nature is making a good effort on reclaiming the territory. Here is an excerpt from the photographer's experiences there:
Today's post is on the incredibly beautiful Grande Manicomio, an abandoned Mental Institution in Italy where nature is making a good effort on reclaiming the territory. Here is an excerpt from the photographer's experiences there:
"We were able to roam freely through the park-like grounds and around the decrepit buildings without anyone stopping us. Some structures were still operating under various functions, while the disused buildings seemed to be boarded up occasionally; keeping the blockades intact was not the highest priority here, and so it was quite easy to get in and out.
Inside, the spaces were often a highly contrasting mixture of old architecture and a few new elements, such as bed frames, desks, and other furniture. The scenes struck me as odd - perhaps it was the lack of drop ceilings, a cheap and economical feature so commonly used in old buildings in the U.S. We were able to find some fun tunnel connections between the buildings... coming up from a basement and seeing the fading glow of the sun told us we had to move on if we wanted to explore more of this country."
